INSEE Ecocycle Joins Forces with Starboard for World Ocean Day Cleanup

09.06.2025

In celebration of World Ocean Day 2025, INSEE Ecocycle joined forces with Starboard, a global brand in windsurfing and paddleboarding innovation and a strong advocate for ocean conservation, to organize a community Paddle & Road Cleanup at Taco Lake, Samut Prakan. The event brought together over 100 volunteers, including 40 stand-up paddleboard (SUP) participants, to remove litter from the lake, nearby canal, and roadside areas.

Organized by Starboard and supported by environmental partners including Trash Hero, the event underscored a shared mission: to protect marine environments and promote responsible waste management. Volunteers were not only engaged in cleanup activities but also educated on the environmental value of proper waste segregation.

Bruno Fux, CEO of INSEE Ecocycle, highlighted the role in addressing waste challenges:

“With the right approach, we can recover energy from waste that would otherwise pollute our environment. Co-processing it into alternative fuel supports our mission of zero waste to landfill and reduced fossil fuel use.”

As part of its contribution, INSEE Ecocycle established a waste segregation station and knowledge-sharing zone to demonstrate how RDF is produced. The INSEE Ecocycle team worked to sort combustible waste such as non-recyclable plastics like straws, plastic bags, and packaging from the waste collected. These materials were sent to INSEE Ecocycle’s facility in Saraburi, where they are transformed into alternative fuel for cement production.

The cleanup effort resulted in the collection of 339.3 kilograms of waste, which can be classified as follows: 222.1 kilograms were identified as suitable for RDF, 56.9 kilograms of PET bottles, 32.7 kilograms of glass bottles, and 24.2 kilograms of general waste. Smaller quantities included 1.3 kilograms of foam and 2.1 kilograms of hazardous waste, all carefully sorted and recorded as part of the event’s environmental impact.

Looking ahead, INSEE Ecocycle aims to build on this momentum by expanding waste recovery partnerships, enhancing RDF collection efforts, and continuing to innovate sustainable solutions for the future.
